DAF says its Leyland and Eindhoven plants are back at five-day-a-week working as the firm has cleared out all its previously unsold stock.
Speaking at a press event (12 April), DAF Trucks UK MD Ray Ashworth said sales picked up last month after a very slow start to 2010. "All unsold stock is now gone, so new orders are increasing and both our Leyland and Eindhoven plants are back on five-day working," he said.
"Used prices are rising and operators now need to decide between a premium-price new truck or a used truck."
A sign that hauliers are busy, but still concerned about the strength of the recovery, is that the rental companies have started buying trucks again after disappearing from the market in 2009. "This year rental is recovering," said Ashworth. "Customers will rent rather than buy if they are uncertain about the future."
